SMOOTH ARRIVAL – EASY LIVING – SWIFT DEPARTURE
Dear Friends,

We are pondering why Newcomer’s is still experiencing growth in spite of the recession. The answer is PASSION. We are passionate about what we do! We eat, breath, sleep relocation and we share our experiences with our clients, on our website, in this newsletter, and in our handbook. This summer we have tried and written about many, many activities and restaurants all over the country to make our expats’ stay in Sweden richer.

During August we have explored the corporate housing market,  producing an information piece to make your life easier, our job more efficient and the lives of our new fellow Swedish resident a great deal more fun.

NEW PRODUCTS – We have produced a comprehensive website for a client with all information imaginable for their expats. It ranges from car import information to the best places to swim or what sporting event you can participate in during a year. If you want a custom- designed website to take the ease the burden off the HR department – please don’t hesitate to contact us.

With warm summer regards from the Newcomer’s Team

Sweden plummets in the ranks from the most expensive cities globally

StockholmDue to the weak Swedish currency and the global economic climate, Sweden has become the place to go! Real estate and rentals is still in limited supply due to the size of Sweden, but it’s comparatively not expensive. It’s a good time to set up operations, the recruiting is easier than it has been for years and the terms for companies is getting increasingly improved.

Award winning author Henning Mankell’s grumpy inspector is featured both by Kenneth Branagh in the BBC films and Swedish actor Krister Henriksson. The books are also translated in to forty languages so for a long read – pick up one of them.
You will soon be hooked.

Ipred Legislature changes opportunities for all inclusive property rentals

Computer UsersWhile it’s always been tricky to get Swedish landlords to include utilities due to taxation issues, now there are other considerations that need to be taken into account.

The new ipred law make landlords hesitant to include broadband in the rentals as they have no control over the how it’s later used. This particularly affects short term assignees. We do advice our clients to provide their staff with wireless connections so they can be on-line at home.

Royal Weddings in Sweden

Victoria & DanielSweden is excited about the royal weddings that will take place next year. First out is Crownprincess Victoria and Mr. Daniel Westling on June 19th.

Hotels are fully booked and other royal families will spend at least three days of celebrating. The whole thing will be televised in many countries around the world.

Younger sister Princess Madeleine announced her engagement to Jonas Bergström last week and her wedding will take place in the fall of 2010. The picture of both sisters and Prince Carl Philip was taken by a Newcomer’s staff member spring 2009.

Sincerely,

4 best things about Tokyo:

 - Cherry Blossom season in April – “hanami” blossom viewing parties in parks and neighborhoods are how locals enjoy the fleeting beauty of these trees each spring.
 - Best and freshest Sushi in the world!  A unique experience is a sushi breakfast at Tsukiji fish market, perhaps the world’s largest fish market.
 - The efficient and extensive public transportation system

 - There’s no need for a car, as you can easily go anywhere by train, subway or bus in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area.
 - Tokyo is one of the safest capital cities in the world.
